Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 75mm F1.8 the Best Bokeh Rendering Lens Among Micro Four Thirds
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 75mm F1.8 Lens got reviewed once again. This time by Korean website SLR Club. According to them this 75mm lens in micro four thirds and compact system cameras world is able to produce the best bokeh ever surpassing the already good Olympus M. Zuiko 45mm F1.8 portrait lens and the Panasonic Leica 25mm F1.4 lens.
The focusing speed of this 75mm F1.8 lens is fast though not the fastest among micro four thirds world but still able to deliver. The lens is also quite silent during focusing being hard to hear it working during focusing which is a plus specially if you do not want to disturb your target subjects.
The minimum focusing distance is of 84cm being best suited to be used as a mid tele and portrait lens. As it requires some distance from subjects to focus it also helps lens to give a nicer bokeh as more parts will be out of focus as well as enabling photographer to take photos from a certain distance making it easier to get a more natural look from target subjects as they won’t feel invaded during the photo session.
The filter size of this lens is of 58mm and as it does not rotate during focusing any type of filter can be used with lens. For photographers and videographers that rely on manual focusing it is also very easy to use this lens as its focusing is smooth.
A minus on this lens is that the lens hood does not come for free and has to be purchased separately. The product code of the lens hood is LH-61F. Also the ones seeking a better lens cap have to drop some more money when purchasing lens as the one coming with it is of plastic. A metal lens cap is available as an accessory and has product code LC-61.
A big plus of this lens is that it is to be used wide open. Actually its best results are achieved from F1.8 till F4. Apertures starting at F5.6 start to show some image degradation with decreased resolution. From F16 onwards it is definitely not recommended to use this lens as image quality gets substantially degraded.
In terms of corner and center lens sharpness the lens shows very good results with lots of details being captured in both corners and center. When wide open some vignetting occurs but that is to be expected from all fast lens.
The very nice bokeh renders are a result of the lens construction and usage of a total of 9 blades that produce perfect circles up to F2.8.
