Schneider-Kreuznach a high-performance lenses manufacturer announced the release of the Super Angulon 14mm F2.0 Lens for the Micro Four Thirds Compact System. The Super Angulon 14mm F2.0 lens is a prime wide angle lens with a full frame equivalent of 28mm and F4.0 in terms of depth of field.
Unlike Voigtlander Schneider has decided to release a lens with auto focus capabilities so it means this lens can be used as an auto focus and manual focus lens. The released date of the Schneider 14mm F2.0 Lens for Micro Four Thirds Compact System Cameras is expected to be during Autumn 2012. As for pricing of the Schneider Super Angulon 14mm F2.0 Lens for Micro Four Thirds Compact System Cameras it is yet to be announced but taking into account Schneider is a high performance lens manufacturer and that this lens have nano coating to avoid lens glare is made with 10 different optical parts will for sure cost more than 1000 EUR but according to rumors will cost less than 1500 EUR so the final price will be within that region.
The Schneider Super Angulon 14mm F2.0 is Schneider-Kreuznach’s first lens to be produced for Micro Four Thirds Compact System Cameras but according to Schneider they plan to produce more lens for that system as well as in future for the Sony NEX E-Mount Compact System Cameras. The precise roadmap of future lens for this two compact system cameras will be announced during Photokina so the release of the Super Angulon 14mm F2.0 lens was made at this stage to create some stir. As part of the lens roadmap it is expect to have at least a 30mm F1.4 lens as well as a 60mm lens with macro capabilities.
Schneider’s Super Angulon 14mm F2.0 major rival in Micro Four Thirds world is expected to be the Panasonic 14mm F2.5 pancake lens as both give a similar angle of view (though the Schneider Super Angulon 14mm F2.0 is expected to be sharper due to its better construction though also reflected in price).
There are still no samples of photos taken with the Schneider Super Angulon 14mm F2.0 lens but we results should be similar to the Panasonic 14mm F2.5 lens as can be found below:
